ABOUT ME:

I am Alli and I am married to my best friend, Mike.

Since May 2011, I have sworn off refined sugar, starch, grains and a lot of dairy and am now following the Specific Carbohydrates Diet.

This is my attempt to stay faithful to the diet by documenting my attempts to eat, and eat well.   I hope you enjoy the results!

  1. Hi Alli!

My name is Sue, and found your blog today thru WordPress – it captured my interest! I’m from SlimKicker (a healthy living/fitness app), and was wondering if we can do a giveaway for your blog readers?

Our site basically turns people’s health/fitness goals into a level up game with challenges such as quitting soda for a week. We’re looking for new challenge ideas, so was thinking of holding a contest where your readers leave a comment on a health challenge idea, and we’ll pick our favorite challenge idea, use it on our site, and give the winner either a free digital health scale, slow cooker, or digital heart monitor.

Let me know if you’re interested by email: sue (at) slimkicker.com

PS. You can choose not to publish this comment since it’s not really a comment, I just couldn’t find your email address =)

    Best,
    Sue

  2. Hi Alli, awesome blog! It’s great to find fellow ‘SCDers’. I’ve been following the diet for just over a month and started keeping a blog because I just couldn’t find enough resources out there. I look forward to trying your recipes as I progress on this diet 🙂

  3. Hi Alli! I hope that you are feeling better…. I would love to know how the SCD is helping with your symptoms… I started with SCD before turning to the Autoimmune Protocol. I think that I had sensitivity to eggs and nightshades which made SCD not work as well for me 😦 HUGS and cheers to healing!!!! 🙂

    • Hi Mika! Thank you for your kind words! You know, at the beginning, SCD worked incredibly well for me. Over the course of two years, I learned to tailor it for me, which meant very few beans, only casein and lactose free cheese, etc. In February, a mild flare started and I decided to try the AIP. I discovered a sensitivity to eggs and caffeine that I didn’t know I had, but didn’t experience remission of the disease like I had when I started SCD. An ill timed trip to Europe sent me into the latest tailspin, as I have discovered that I am incredibly sensitive to lack of sleep. Right now, my body isn’t responding to anything- food or medication. My hope is that I will be able to balance out again and then work with a naturopath to figure out some of my other triggers and sensitivities. Thank you for reaching out- I’d love to hear more about you and what you’re doing to heal! Your blog is wonderful!

  4. Hi Alli. I just found your blog and noticed you haven’t posted since last year. I hope you’ve been able to find a balance. I’ve had my first flare in 12 years after doing the scd diet all those years ago but I’m determined to make myself well again. Hope things have improved for you. X

    • I’m glad you found my blog! I still do the scd diet but had a bad flare this summer so have taken some time off of blogging, but not of scd! I’d love to hear how you handled your flare. I had to use some strong meds to kick start my healing. Discouraging but I’m persisting!

      • I wonder if your flare was that “last party” of the bad bugs that Elaine Gottschall referred to in her book? She said it happens about 3 months in, but I can imagine it’s different for everyone. I’m two steps forward and one step back at the moment, but I know I will get to the point when I’m completely well again. That positive belief is really important to me. Crazy as it sounds, the first time I had a flare I would visualise the bad bacteria dying every night before I fell asleep – I’m 100% sure it helped. I couldn’t take anti inflammatories (made me worse) and only used a steroid suppository. So far this time I’m not having any meds. I’m staying away from nuts, seeds, fruit with seeds and just keeping things very basic at the moment. One thing is for sure, I’m so happy to have found SCD.
